In 2005 I had my own studio built in the garden. I can now offer a professional service as a photographer in a very friendly and relaxed studio environment, situated in Portchester on the South Coast of England.

My journey into photography all began because of a desire to take digital photographs of my own dogs and e-mail them to the friends who were responsible for me coming to own these gorgeous creatures. By doing this they were able to monitor their puppies’ progress for themselves.

I had never used a film SLR but was able to borrow a Sony Mavica digital camera some 8 years ago. A very steep learning curve ensued with both the digital camera and the computer. Having mastered these it then became necessary to see my results on paper. Here then began another story all about quality. More expense followed, purchasing a camera that could deliver the size and quality I was after. A year or so on and even this was not good enough, the shutter delay was not fast enough to record the action shots I was trying to capture.

It was then decided, with a little gentle persuasion from my husband, that I should go to college and learn to do it “properly”. The rest, as they say, is history. In 2001 I purchased my first film SLR which was a Canon 500 and enrolled at my local college for a night school course learning photography. Three years later, in 2004, I had 8 City & Guilds modules under my belt (5 Distinctions & 3 Credits). This led to me applying for and being accepted as a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society. I knew then what I wanted to do. I started producing my own calendars with the dogs as my subjects, for family and friends as Christmas presents. One thing led to another and I found myself going down a different path photographing children for colleagues at work.

I will also take pictures on location if required. Not all subjects are as laid back as my own dogs, who are used to being trailed here, there and everywhere whilst Mum takes photographs. Once the tripod goes up the dogs lay down, simple really. I think if you work your way through the various galleries you can gain an insight into my world and get an idea of how I work and what can be produced.
